Boob jobs and butt lifts 'okay' for Miss Thailand World pageant

A new ruling means plastic surgery is now acceptable for Miss Thailand World pageant contestants
Miss Thailand WorldAh, the good old days. Nothing fake about Atchara Mackay, Miss Thailand World 2005.

Expect to see more well-endowed contestants at the next Miss Thailand World pageant. According to The Nation gossip column Soopsip, the chief organizer of the yearly pageant has given participating ladies the all clear to go ahead with plastic surgery.

"In previous years the contestants were always dubious about it and kept asking, 'Can I do this? Is this much okay?' So now we've made it clear with a blanket decision: Plastic surgery is okay for this competition," organizer Nawat Itsornkraisil was quoted by Soopsip.

According to Soopsip, in the past organizers had to scrutinize applicants to make sure their parts were 'real'. Occasionally an 'enhanced' contestant would slip through the net, prompting jeers of public condemnation (yes, we're also curious about their verification methods.) It is hoped this move will eradicate such grey areas.

“Purists will still object, but these days many of the world's beauty queens -- including those from Venezuela and India -- have had tummy tucks, butt lifts and boob jobs, or at least a little facial rearrangement,” says Soopsip. The only thing Miss Thailand World contestants are now barred from adjusting is their sex.
