An estimated 10,000 people rallied peacefully at Bangkok's Ratchaprasong intersection on Sunday, one of several red shirt gatherings held across the country
20 September, 2010It was déjà vu for residents in Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong intersection yesterday, where an estimated 10,000 red shirts rallied peacefully to mark the fourth anniversary of the September 19, 2006 coup.
According to the Bangkok Post, mass red shirt gatherings were held in key cities throughout the country, all going off without any major incidents, with the biggest turnout reported at Ratchaprasong. The rally in Bangkok reportedly ended at 6:30 p.m.
Ratchaprasong was one of the main protest sites during protests in April and May. This was the first major red shirts rally held since protests ended violently on May 19.
