Gallery: U.S. Marines feast on creepy crawlies
Troops make dinner, not war while dishing up the best, and worst, the Thai jungle has to offer during survival training
Crunchy on the outside, chewey on the inside. A U.S. Marine eats a scorpion as part of the jungle survival program at Cobra Gold 2010, held at a navy base in Thailand's Chonburi province.
It was all part of the Marines’ jungle survival training session, which had them eating frogs, lizards, herbs and scorpions. They were also given demonstrations on cobra handling and learned how to skin the snakes and extract their blood for nourishment. Check out some of the highlights –- not for the squeamish –- in our gallery above.
Cobra Gold is the U.S.’s largest military exercise in the Pacific, held in Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard provinces of Rayong and Chonburi from February 2-10. It includes over 14,000 soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen from Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea.
