Score! Bangkok hotels roll out the World Cup eats
Dine with the 12 ambassadors at Plaza Athenee's Reflexions restaurant. With the FIFA World Cup 2010 due to kick off this Friday, hotels all over Bangkok are scrambling to get in on the city's passion for the beautiful game by offering some cool World Cup-related events and offers. Here are a few of our top picks:
Dining with diplomats
Bangkok’s Plaza Athenee, a Royal Meridien hotel, is putting on a sweet six-course spread featuring wine from 12 countries participating in the FIFA World Cup 2010. Here’s the kicker: Each wine will be presented by that country’s ambassador to Bangkok. The event takes place at the hotel’s Reflexions restaurant, June 9 at 7pm. Cost is 5,500 baht per person.

South African wine buffet
Grand Millennium Sukhumvit’s inBlu Bar is hosting a “World Cup Fever” South African wine buffet from June 11 to July 11, starting from 9:30 pm, for 690 baht. Games will be shown on the bar’s LCD screen.

Foods of the World Cup
Pathumwan Princess Bangkok’s Citi Bistro is putting on a World Cup buffet featuring dishes from many of the participating nations including German sausages and Mexican beef quesadillas. Price is 1,090 baht per person, which includes free flow soft drinks.

South African cuisine
Bangkok’s stylish Vie Hotel is cooking up some South African cuisine in celebration of the World Cup's 2010 host, which includes a selection of fine wine from their special culinary corner, for a buffet dinner from June 11 to July 11 in the Vie Wine & Grill. The best part is that the offer is two-for-one -- 950 baht for two people. The buffet is on Monday to Saturday from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.
