B-Resto: Authentic European eats in the unlikeliest of places

Wood-fired pizzas, lambchops and som tom, all in one homey Phaya Thai restaurant

Despite the presence of the King Power complex, Soi Rangnam would never be considered one of Bangkok's posher streets. It's a neighborhood that mainly attracts a few adventurous backpackers and plenty of young Thai students. The sidewalk is full of street stalls featuring the usual Thai grub and quick bites that don't require any gastronomical knowledge to enjoy.

But sitting among the bakeries and the som tum shops lies B-Resto. If the wood-fired pizza oven doesn't give you a hint about the quality of the food here, then perhaps their two menus will. For those looking for a home-cooked Thai meal, the local menu has a complete list of basic and regional favorites from sun-dried beef and som tum to simple comforting plates of khai jiew omelets.

But it’s their European menu that’s off the chart. Think pizzas, pastas, ratatouille and lambchops. Difficult to fathom a small eatery on this nondescript hippie street could give your mouth such a world tour. (See the gallery above for photographic evidence.)

The great thing about B-Resto is that the price stays local despite all the ingredients hailing from France and Italy, making it a true hole-in-the-wall restaurant for affordable and authentic European tastes. The restaurant, open since 2006, was recently taken over by new owners but fortunately they didn't change the popular menus.

Although a full-fledged Thai born and raised in Bangkok, Kitty is not your typical Thai lady.

Outspoken, sometimes with an almost gnarly in-your-face attitude, her signature is a trait that is usually frowned upon in her home country -- as shown in her brazen writing style.
