Heap bar: Piles of fun

Heap is a Jack Daniels-sponsored oasis near the Phaya Thai BTS stop -- an area otherwise lacking many nightlife options. Technically a restaurant, it feels more like a massive bar with a food menu.

Heap’s décor is urban minimalist: lots of wooden surfaces and unfinished concrete. And it tends to attract a mature, neighborhood crowd. But Heap -- which implies heaps of fun, so say management –- is a worthy destination even for those who live outside the area.

With two stories and lots of long tables, the bar seems designed for large groups to pile in, get cozy and stay all night. And if you can’t finish that bottle of Jack, the staff at Heap will scrawl your name on it and stow it behind the bar until your next outing.
