Vertigo
gallery
The aptly named Vertigo on the top floor of Banyan Tree hotel is an open-air rooftop lounge with excellent barbecued seafood and a cocktail and wine menu. Right next door is Moon Bar.

Few independent Bangkok restaurants impress when it comes to great views with great food to match. The legendary Long Table immediately comes to mind. Otherwise, it's the city's hotels that take the lead to offer sky-high quality, ambiance and views.

Lebua: Sirocco/Breeze

The Thai owner of boutique hotel Lebua, in the massive State Tower, took advantage of her prime piece of real estate to create not one but two stunning restaurant/bars on top of the city. Sirocco serves upscale Mediterranean cuisine. Breeze does Asian-style seafood.

1055 Silom Road, tel +66 (0)2 624 9999

Centara Grand: Red Sky

One of the newest venues on the list, Red Sky sits on the 55th floor of the Centara Grand Hotel, part of the Central World shopping complex. The 'urban bistro' menu includes mussels, steak, salmon, lobster and veal.

999/99 Rama 1 Road, tel +66 (0)2 100 1234

Dusit Thani: D'Sens

This French restaurant on the 22nd floor of the historic Dusit Thani Hotel doesn’t match the heights of most of the other venues on this list, but D'Sens' views and fantastic cuisine make up for the lack of vertical thrills.

946 Rama IV Road, Silom, tel +66 (0)2 200 9000 ext 2449

Banyan Tree: Vertigo & Moon Bar/Pier59/Latitude Lounge & Bar

Bangkok’s Banyan Tree Hotel has three separate venues that tower over the city. Vertigo's specialty is barbecued seafood, though it also grills a mean steak and has a good vegetarian menu. Pier59 is all about seafood. Lattitude is a lounge that serves Asian tapas.

21/100 South Sathorn Road, tel +66 (0)2 679 1200

Pan Pacific: Panorama

Panorama opened in mid-2009 but its chefs are already doing very impressive things. With dishes like frozen fois gras and Alaskan king crab, the menu is so intriguing diners might forget to check out the excellent views of the Bangkok downtown skyline.

952 Rama IV Road, BTS: Sala Daeng, tel+66 (0)2 632 9000

Millennium Hilton: Three Sixty Lounge

Millennium Hilton’s 32nd-floor Three Sixty Lounge is the rebel of our list, the only venue located on the south side of the Chao Phraya River. Ok, it doesn't really have much in the way of food. But the views make it perfect for an after dinner drink following a juicy steak at Prime.

123 Charoennakorn Road, BTS: Taksin (catch the free Hilton shuttle ferry from beneath the station), tel +66 (0)2 442 200

Great view but cold food! Most of the reviewed restaurants are totally overpriced. Wonderful views, yes, but food is mostly cold after minutes it's on the table. but than there is on place you have not mentioned. You can get hot food for a long time, they serve "Hot Stone Grill" at the Al Fresco Dining Siam@Siam "Skydine”, on the 25th floor which is the only open-air restaurant in Bangkok with a 360degree view . It's located opposite the national Stadium and only 5 minutes from the BTS Sky Train. On the 24th floor is the Air-conditioned French Mediterranean Restaurant “La Vue” with a 180 Degree view over the Bangkok’s Skyline. Food is great, but far less expensive, than the other "great view Restaurants" you have reviewed above.

this kind of tacky wanna-be-upscale decoration just gives me hives... i can't imagine sitting there on top of the banyan tree without wanting to fling every single piece of furniture off the side of the building.

I think Zense could be added to the list too right?
