Hello, there. I am W. David Marx -- CNNGo's Tokyo City Editor.

Originally from the lower half of the United States, I first came to Tokyo in 1998 to do an internship with Kodansha Publishing and then came back in 2000 to research my senior thesis on A Bathing Ape and Harajuku street fashion. After moving here for good in 2003, I have only grown more attached to Tokyo -- equally obsessed with the 21st century retail wonderland of Shibuya/Harajuku/Omotesando/Aoyama and the early modern culture that still haunts places like Lion Meikyoku Kissa and Kamiya Bar.

My writing and translation has been published in such places as GQ, Harper's, Brutus, Nylon, Weekly Diamond, The Fader and the Da Capo anthology "Best Music Writing 2009." I am also a former editor of Tokion (U.S.) and the Harvard Lampoon.

During the second half of the Aughts, I released two-and-a-half albums on New York-based indie labels under the artist name Marxy. I now spend most of my days with hands on keyboards and books.
