I have the best job in the whole wide world -- Bangkok editor of CNNGo. Well, maybe there are a few jobs cooler than mine. But I can't think of any right now.
Back in 2001 I left my job as a television news producer
in Canada to travel through Asia and Australia. Three weeks into the trip I had that quintessentially Thai experience -- a motorbike accident -- and soon after found myself recovering on my parent's couch in Cold Lake, Alberta, beer in hand, wondering where my life went wrong. Ok, I'm being dramatic. But my pride certainly did hurt.
Seeing as I had no job, I decided to try again, this time hitting Bali and Australia for a few months of surfing and work, including a character-building experience that involved slapping stickers on papayas in a fruit field. Fun as that was I decided to return to Thailand, where I've been for the past six years working as a writer/editor for several publications in
the region.
