With 250,000 cows spread out over 20 farms, Huishan Dairy in Shenyang, China produces a lot of smelly biogas.

Now, having installed the world's largest methane capturing system [via technologyreview.com], the biogas from at least 60,000 of those cows is being turned into usable energy, producing an estimated 5.6 megawatts of power and putting China's dairy industry on the world dairy map.

How it works

The system works by collecting methane from aged cow manure.

Singapore Airlines to launch in-flight Internet

Singapore Airlines has announced that it will be rolling out a full suite of in-flight Wi-Fi Internet and communications services across its Airbus A380, Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in 2011, aiming to equip 43 aircraft with the service by 2013.

The initiative has been launched in collaboration with OnAir, an on-board connectivity solution provider, and is seen by Singapore Airlines as picking up where previous high-speed broadband communications for airlines left off.

Boeing, for example, discontinued its Connexion by Boeing service in 2006, saying the market for the service was not satisfactorily developed.
